LIVE 3 September - 6 November 2011
Broadcasts from Nomadi, Sean Maltby & Rob Smith
Field Broadcast: DISTANCE links three artists in three cities through a series of live broadcasts for the duration of DISTANCE festival.
Field Broadcast has adopted the model of a residency, choosing to work with three artists for a sustained period of time allowing them to develop a number of broadcasts that will go live throughout the festival. Each artist's broadcasts will develop an image of the physical and cultural landscape of their city and the audience will be directly connected to these places through their live transmissions.
Nomadi, Sean Maltby and Rob Smith will produce a series of live broadcasts from Riga, Newcastle and London respectively. The artists are equipped with laptops, video cameras and a dongle (mobile Internet connection ) to enable them to make live broadcasts from the field. Through animation, text, performance, sculpture and live data, each real time transmission reaches the viewer without any editing or post production direct to their computer desktop through the Field Broadcast software.
To recieve the broadcasts you will need to download the Field Broadcast Pinger which is available at www.fieldbroadcast.org/distance this software will sit on your desktop and alert you to when the broadcasts go live.
DISTANCE will present work in Riga, London and Newcastle within three host festivals; Homo Novus in Riga, Lift in London and Wunderbar in Newcastle. DISTANCE explores our relationship to distance in a world of pervasive networked technologies, cheap flights and global culture. For more information visit: www.fromadistance.co.uk
